“The child grew and became strong, filled with wisdom; and the favor of God was upon Him.” (Luke 2:40)

A 17-year-old boy lay in a hospital bed dying because of leukemia. His father was there at the bedside. Through the years, he had given that boy “everything” … a home, comforts, education, a variety of experience, and luxuries … but in that sober hour, his son needed something more.

I remember as a youngster growing up in central Nebraska looking forward to the field trip that my class would get to take at the end of the school year.

Heading into the year-end field trip, everyone was excited because it meant a day away from the stress of the classroom (as if being a third grader was really all that stressful in the first place). But the field trip always turned into something more than that.

Meeting the Mission: St. Thomas in NicaraguaSt. Thomas Lutheran Church in Omaha sent nine members to Nicaragua April 14-18 to take part in a vision trip.

The mission was to share Christ’s love with Nicaragua’s poorest people by partnering with The Rainbow Network to help the vastly impoverished portions of the country with healthcare, education, economic development and housing.
