“For truly I tell you, whoever gives you a cup of water to drink because you bear the name of Christ will by no means lose the reward.” (Mark 9:41)

They simply gave themselves… and it made a huge difference!

They took time, made the effort, worked hard, shared… and now a community of faith is renewed in hope, alive for the sake of others.

It was Saturday, June 26, and we had loaded into five coach busses earlier that morning, bound for Minneapolis and the 2010 Nebraska Synod Youth Mission Trip. Our bus was scheduled to stop for lunch at a particular fast food restaurant in Sioux City, Iowa, and wisely, each of the five busses was assigned a different place to eat.

All 47 of us ordered quickly, as the restaurant staff members were doing their jobs well. Those in our group who finished eating early found themselves on a backyard-size lawn, behind the restaurant and next to their drive-through lane. Hooper kids (photo)This summer, vacation Bible schools all across the Synod are doing a variety of projects to help others. One example of this took place at the VBS held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hooper.

More than 40 children attended the VBS at St. Paul’s June 21-25. Throughout the week, the youth brought coin offerings for God’s Global Barnyard, contributing a total of $215 to be used to purchase a sheep, a goat and 40 chicks that will provide food and income for families in developing countries.

Churches sponsoring the Bible school were St. Paul’s Lutheran/Hooper, Elim Lutheran/Swaburg, First Congregational & United Church of Christ/Uehling, St. Paul’s Lutheran/Uehling and St. John’s Lutheran/County Line.
